Maximum Anti-Shoplifting Protection for Bottled Products

Protecting high ticket non-ingestible liquid products from shoplifting has been an ongoing challenge to retailers and manufacturers. With minimal or no packaging, it is difficult to integrate an electronic article surveillance (EAS) device into the product without it being obvious and easy to defeat. To date, the only way to protect this product category has been to restrict consumer access to the product, which negatively impacts sales .

To combat this problem and permit more aggressive open merchandising, B&G Plastics, Inc. has developed an EAS-integrated anti-shoplifting device that can be inserted directly into bottled, liquid products at point of manufacture. This new, patented device, called the "Winged smartseal ", encapsulates an Acousto-magnetic EAS label within a plastic housing. It is completely sealed to eliminate any interaction between the liquid and the EAS device yet can be sensed and deactivated while within the bottle.

  The device has been designed with "wings", which protrude from the body. The wings are flexed to facilitate insertion of the device into the bottle, and then restrict it from exiting the bottle when the contents are poured out. An added, encapsulated weight sinks the device to the bottom of the bottle, which facilitates both detection and deactivation. The "Winged smartseal" provides maximum product protection from shoplifting and is almost impossible to defeat.

The "Winged   smartseal " is currently being used to protect bottle liquids in the Home Center market.
